US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he has decided to delay a planned military attack on Iran. This decision came after consultations with the leaders of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, who assured him that significant negotiations are underway that could lead to a favorable agreement. Trump’s decision to hold off on the offensive, which was scheduled for Tuesday, reflects the influence of Gulf leaders who have expressed optimism about reaching a deal that would prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump explained that the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan requested the postponement, emphasizing their belief in achieving a deal. Trump expressed his respect for these leaders, suggesting that their involvement could lead to a resolution acceptable to the United States and other Middle Eastern nations.
Despite the temporary halt, Trump has instructed US defense officials to remain ready for a full-scale military operation against Iran if negotiations do not yield the desired outcome. He detailed that the proposed deal would crucially include a provision preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The President has directed Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and General Daniel Caine to be prepared for immediate action should the current diplomatic efforts fail.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have submitted a revised proposal to the United States through Pakistani intermediaries. However, reports indicate that US officials found the latest offer insufficient, lacking meaningful changes that would lead to an agreement. A senior US official suggested that unless Iran adopts a more accommodating stance regarding its nuclear program, the situation might escalate to military actions, which they described as regrettable.
Earlier on Monday, Iran transmitted a 14-point proposal via Pakistan aimed at resolving the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Despite the modest adjustments in Tehran’s latest offer, US officials remain concerned about Iran’s commitment to addressing the core issues, heightening the likelihood of further US military responses if diplomatic measures do not succeed.
