The United Arab Emirates has taken a significant step to alleviate the financial strain on motorists by announcing a notable reduction in fuel prices for July. This decision comes after several months of escalating costs due to earlier disruptions in the global oil markets. The Fuel Price Committee has implemented cuts across all fuel categories, including Super 98, Special 95, E-Plus, and diesel, marking the first monthly decrease since February. This change aligns with the recent decline in global crude oil prices as supply conditions in the region have improved.
Motorists will see a noticeable decrease in expenses at the pump, with Super 98 petrol now priced at Dh3.40 per litre, a drop from the previous Dh3.95. Similarly, Special 95 and E-Plus have experienced reductions of more than 50 fils per litre. Diesel prices witnessed the most significant decrease, falling by 73 fils to Dh3.60 per litre. These adjustments offer some respite to commuters and families who have been grappling with higher fuel costs.
The reduction in fuel prices follows a period of easing global oil prices in June, largely due to decreased fears of prolonged disruptions in shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Diplomatic efforts have contributed to stabilizing the situation, allowing Brent crude to return closer to levels seen before the conflict. As a result, the UAE has been able to pass on the benefits of these improved conditions to consumers.
Despite the recent cuts, fuel prices remain higher than earlier in the year. However, the July adjustment has provided much-needed relief by reducing the burden on daily commuters. Analysts indicate that the trajectory of future fuel prices will hinge on the stability of geopolitical tensions and the continued recovery of global oil supply.
