The Zayed Sustainability Prize, a prestigious award in the United Arab Emirates, has attracted a record number of entries for its 2027 cycle, with 10,233 submissions from 177 countries. This marks a significant 32% increase compared to the previous year, highlighting the global interest in innovative projects that tackle pressing challenges across climate action, health, food, energy, water, and education through the global high schools category.
In this edition, winners in the categories of climate, health, food, energy, and water will be awarded $1 million each. Finalists in these categories will receive $150,000. Additionally, six high schools deemed winners will each secure $150,000, with the finalists receiving $25,000. These incentives underscore the prize’s commitment to supporting impactful solutions and pioneering efforts worldwide.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Director General of the prize, emphasized that the unprecedented level of participation underscores a growing international demand for practical and innovative solutions that can enhance quality of life. Notably, more than two-thirds of the applications originated from developing and emerging economies, with climate action drawing the most entries, reflecting global urgency in addressing environmental issues.
The next step in the process involves the announcement of finalists, which is set for September. The culmination of this cycle will be the awards ceremony scheduled for January 12, 2027, where the winners will be officially recognized for their contributions. This event will celebrate the innovative spirit and dedication of individuals and institutions committed to creating a sustainable future.
