Thailand is making strides in enhancing its international aviation network with strategic collaborations and technological upgrades. The nation has entered into new partnerships with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai, aiming to bolster connectivity and promote tourism. These efforts are complemented by initiatives to upgrade regional airport systems, ensuring a seamless travel experience for passengers.
Vietnam Airlines has introduced a new flight route connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Phuket, which commenced operations on July 2. This service, offering four weekly flights and an annual capacity of around 39,500 seats, is designed to accommodate the increasing travel demand from Vietnam. Notably, over 300,000 Vietnamese travelers visited Thailand in the first half of the year, underscoring the route’s potential to facilitate tourism growth.
In a parallel development, flydubai has expanded its operations by launching daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok starting July 1. The airline plans to further enhance this connectivity by increasing the frequency to twice daily from September 15. This initiative is expected to strengthen the travel links between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand, catering to the needs of both business and leisure travelers.
On the domestic front, Thailand is poised to implement the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at its regional airports. This system is aimed at improving air traffic management and operational efficiency, particularly benefiting secondary cities. The initial deployment of AFIS is set for Phrae and Phetchabun airports, with a target completion by 2028. There are also plans to potentially extend this system to other regional airports, enhancing overall connectivity within the country.
