The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong denunciation of the Houthi group’s recent remarks directed at Saudi Arabia, which included threats to establish a maritime blockade against the kingdom. In its statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the global community to enforce relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions pertaining to Yemen and the safeguarding of maritime security in the Red Sea.
The ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to Resolution 2216, which addresses the situation in Yemen, alongside Resolution 2722, which focuses on the protection of navigation rights and the freedom of movement in the Red Sea. These resolutions are seen as critical to maintaining stability and security in the region.
Underscoring the significance of free navigation, the UAE reaffirmed that such freedom in international waters is upheld by international law, particularly referencing the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. This treaty is a cornerstone for ensuring unimpeded maritime passage across the globe.
Furthermore, the UAE expressed its unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia, affirming support for any measures that aim to safeguard the kingdom’s security and stability. This stance highlights the close ties between the two nations and their shared interest in regional peace and security.
